Management Consulting Positions

1. Business Unit Leaders -- accountable for the Operating Profit for a part of HDI's business.

Responsibilities

a.) Leading HDI Business in a designated set of clients/projects including
  • developing prospects,
  • writing proposals,
  • facilitating team sales,
  • defining and resourcing projects (Project Manager, consulting and support personnel, and budgets),
  • ensuring the overall quality of work done by the Project Manager/Consulting Teams,
  • monitoring utilization and profitability,
  • approving and signing invoices for services to clients, and
b.) Being the designated Supervisor for assigned Consulting and Project Support Manager (PSM) personnel including
  • annual goal setting with each,
  • development planning,
  • coaching and counseling for HDI employee success,
  • performance evaluation and feedback, and
  • input for compensation decisions

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience earning a living by selling and successfully delivering consulting services
  • Strong basis for attracting prospects (speaking, writing, professional organizations, networks)
  • Strong marketing network of former and potential customers
  • Strong sales skills and a record of selling projects in the $100,000 to
    1 million size
  • Willing to take the prudent risks needed to start and develop a business or practice area within HDI
  • Consulting Project Management skills (see below)
  • Houston, Austin, Dallas based
2. Consulting Project Managers -- accountable for Project Results (Value of the project to the client and Operating Profit for HDI). Project management in areas such as:
  • Business Strategy and e-Strategy Development and Implementation
  • ERP and/or "Big System" Implementation Program/Project Management
  • Reengineering Design and Implementation (Enterprise or Process level)
  • Organizational Design and Implementation

Responsibilities

a.) Developing business leads for consulting work both inside current assignments and prospecting
b.) Actively participating in the team selling process
c.) Developing the Project Plan for Consulting...the key to Operating Profit (targeted results/deliverables, work methods/tasks that will lead to those results/deliverables, consultant assignments, work schedule, consultant billing rates and labor costs, time and dollar budgets to targeted operating profit).
d.) Validating the Plan with the HDI Business Unit Leader and the written proposal as accepted by the client
e.)  Validating Project Plan with the client to ensure that initial client and HDI expectations are aligned
f.) Guiding and directing the work of project personnel to produce the results/deliverables in the plan, including training/coaching project personnel on consulting methods and techniques needed to successfully conduct the project
g.) Maintaining the working relationship with the designated customer/client and ensuring positive outcomes for that individual. Maintaining the relationship includes ensuring that we are producing the result/deliverables the client has agreed to and is expecting (i.e., managing the client's expectations)
h.) Monitoring project progress against resources used (time and labor dollars) and taking actions as necessary to adjust HDI work, personnel and schedule to meet client needs and HDI operating profit target
i.) Aggressively managing any changes in the scope of the project.
j.) Reviewing and approving client invoices for the project

Requirements

  • Senior personnel who can guide a client consulting project from identification of desired business value all the way through design, implementation, and realization of that value
  • Experience in consulting for fees (i.e., the industry of professional consulting)
  • Experienced in working the user/business side of IT consulting projects
  • Process mindset
  • Experience as supervisor of professional personnel
  • Ability to work both individually and on teams
  • Excellent client relations skills
  • 10-15 years business experience
  • MBA (or advanced degree/certification…PhD, CPA)
  • Project Management Training and experience required with PMP certification desirable
  • Experienced in use of MS Project
  • Familiar with ISO/Baldrige/TQM/Quality/CMM
  • Houston based
3. Senior Management Consultants -- accountable for executing assigned project work within the assigned time/dollar budget in the areas of:
  • Strategy development and implementation
  • Process improvement, reengineering
  • Change Management in support of Reengineering, Big Systems implementation, and/or culture change

Responsibilities

a.) Developing business leads for consulting work both inside current assignments and prospecting
b.) Actively participating in the team selling process
c.) Working with the Project Manager to develop and keep current the Project Plan (i.e., the targeted business results/deliverables and the means to deliver)
d.) Executing assigned project work tasks, schedule, and time budget in a way that will lead to project and client success
e.) Taking direction from the Project Manager as needed to successfully complete the project
f.) Keeping the Project Manager informed of progress, POF (problems/obstacles/frustrations), time spent/needed on project work
g.) Accurately keeping and turning in all project time and expenses by the Monday deadline
h.) Maintaining positive working relationships with customer personnel involved in or around the consulting project
i.) Identifying and bringing additional client opportunities to the
attention of the Project Manager or the Business Unit Leader


Requirements

  • Three years experience in taking a consulting project from identification of desired business value all the way through design, implementation, and realization of that value
  • Experienced in working the user/business side of IT projects
  • Process mindset
  • Ability to work both individually and on teams
  • Excellent client relations skills
  • 5-10 years business experience
  • MBA
  • Project Management training required with PMP certification desirable
  • Houston based
