2004 FAQ:
Can I find a
Change Management methodology?
Answer:
No, you probably cannot find one … any
more than you can find a “methodology” for treating cancer,
brain surgery, flying an airliner, litigating a capital case,
developing a shopping center, and so on. Some endeavors
don’t have “methodologies.”
Maybe what we need, if we really want help with a tough,
complex problem, is the following:
1. An expert,
2. who knows the principles, and
3. who has the experience to be able to apply
those principles
4. in the discerning way called for the actual
situation.
So the next time you encounter someone on the “quest for
change management methodology,” suggest they get in touch with
someone who does it professionally for a living.
